7 - 8 Days Kilimanjaro – Umbwe Route
Day 1 – Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport
Meet your guide at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Natron Palace Hotel B&B. Gear check, briefing, and equipment arrangements for the climb. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 – Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp | 11KM / 7MI | 5-7 HRS | Heath
Elevation: 5,249 ft → 9,514 ft
Transfer through villages and plantations to Umbwe Gate. Begin a steep ascent through dense rainforest to Umbwe Camp, surrounded by thick trees and undergrowth. Overnight at Umbwe Camp.
Day 3 – Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp | 6KM / 4MI | 4-5 HRS | Heath
Elevation: 9,514 ft → 13,044 ft
Trek on rockier terrain with sparse vegetation, enjoying glimpses of Kilimanjaro. Descend through Barranco Valley to reach Barranco Camp, surrounded by unique Senecio Forest. Overnight at Barranco Camp.
Day 4 – Barranco Camp (Acclimatization)
Extra day for acclimatization. Optional short hikes and rest to ease your effort for higher altitudes.
Day 5 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp | 5KM / 2MI | 4-5 HRS | Alpine Desert
Ascend the Barranco Wall, cross hills and valleys, and reach Karanga Camp after a series of short climbs and descents. Overnight at Karanga Camp.
Day 6 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Continue up to Barafu Camp, completing the Southern Circuit. Enjoy views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Rest and early dinner in preparation for summit night. Overnight at Barafu Camp.
Day 7 – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Early start (around midnight) to ascend Uhuru Peak, witnessing sunrise at Stella Point. Celebrate at the summit, then descend via Barafu to Mweka Camp. Trekking poles recommended on rocky descent. Overnight at Mweka Camp.
Day 8 – Mweka Camp to Arusha
Complete descent to Mweka Gate, receive summit certificates, and transfer back to your hotel in Arusha. End of trek.
